Ms. Marie Renaud - MLA for St. Albert

Father God, we thank you for MLA Ms. Marie Renaud and for her commitment and dedication to her service to the people of Alberta. Marie Renaud was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of St. Albert, on May 5, 2015.

She currently serves as a member of the Standing Committees on Public Accounts and the Select Special Ethics and Accountability Committee. Previously she served as a member of the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund.

Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, Ms. Renaud worked for almost 15 years as the executive director of Lo-Se-Ca Foundation, a nonprofit organization that provides residential and day supports to adults with developmental disabilities. Prior to this, she spent two years at the Women's Economic and Business Solutions Society and seven years as an instructor at MacEwan University.

She also devoted her time to various boards and committees. Besides serving as board chair for the Handicapped Housing Society of Alberta, she was a member of the board for the Alberta Avenue Business Revitalization Zone and the Norwood Child & Family Resource Centre. In addition, Ms. Renaud served on various committees, including the Rehabilitation Practitioner Advisory Committee for MacEwan University and the St. Albert Accessible Transportation Advisory Committee. She also previously worked with the Edmonton Council of Service Providers.

Ms. Renaud holds a university certificate in counselling women from the women's and gender studies department at the University of Alberta and a diploma in community disability studies from MacEwan University.

She was named one of Edmonton's top 100 women in business by the University of Alberta's Wanderer magazine in 2014, and she received a Prime Minister's volunteer award for social innovation in the prairies region in 2012.

Mrs. Angela Pitt - MLA for Airdrie

Dear God, we pray together for Ms. Angela Pitt as she represents the growing community of Airdrie. Angela Pitt is the member of the Legislative Assembly for Airdrie. She is currently member of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities.

Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, she was a small business owner in Airdrie. During this time she also served as president of a local constituency association and was an active volunteer in her community.

She holds a business administration diploma with a major in marketing from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).

Mrs. Pitt lives in Airdrie and enjoys reading, gardening, and snowboarding with her husband and two children.

Mr. Colin Piquette - MLA for Athabasca-Sturgeon-Redwater

Heavenly Father, we are grateful for Mr. Colin Piquette, MLA for the small yet significant communities of Athabasca – Sturgeon – Redwater. Colin Piquette was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Athabasca-Sturgeon-Redwater, on May 5, 2015.

He is a member of the Special Standing Committee on Members’ Services and the Standing Committee on Alberta's Economic Future. Previously he served on the Standing Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund.

Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, he was an insurance agent representing the Cooperators in Athabasca and Boyle (1999-2001,2011-2015), a consultant with the City of Edmonton's Respectful Workplace training initiative (2006 to 2011), and an instructor in ethics and law in education for the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta (2006-2011).

He also spent several years abroad teaching English at post-secondary institutions and foreign language institutes in South Korea (1997-1999,2001-2005). Prior to 1997, he ran a small publishing company, worked as an operator for Celanese Canada, and helped his parents on the family farm in Plamondon.

Mr. Piquette's employment experience also includes contract work as a political organizer with the Alberta Federation of Labour and the Alberta Union of Provincial Employees on national pension and labour law reforms respectively.

Throughout the years he has volunteered his time to various community organizations. At the time of his election in 2005 he was serving as president of the Boyle District Chamber of Commerce, as vice-president of the Boyle Betterment Committee, and as a director with the Boyle and District Agricultural Society.

Other community organizations Colin has been involved with over the years include Community Service Learning at the University of Alberta, Next Up Alberta, Public Interest Alberta, the Alberta Public Interest Research Group, the Learning Centre, Friends of the Lubicon Alberta, and the Friends of Medicare. He is a founding member of the Centre for Community Organizing and Popular Education (CCOPE).

Colin was also very active in campus politics as an undergraduate student at the University of Alberta in the late eighties and early nineties, working for the end of apartheid, women's choice, indigenous rights, francophone rights, and equality for gays and lesbians, among other worthy causes.

His extensive community involvement has earned him the Evelyn Kline Memorial Award in Community Development and an Edmonton Chamber of Voluntary Organizations community service learning project grant.

In addition to a bachelor of arts degree in political science he holds a master's degree in adult education, both from the University of Alberta.


Mr. Piquette and his spouse reside in Boyle, Alberta, with their two children.

Honourable Shannon Phillips - MLA for Lethbridge-West

Minister of Environment and Parks

Minister Responsible for the Climate Change Office

Shannon Phillips was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Lethbridge-West, on May 5, 2015.

On May 24, 2015, Ms. Phillips was sworn in to cabinet as Minister of Environment and Parks and as Minister Responsible for the Status of Women. On February 2, 2016, Ms. Phillips was named the Minister Responsible for the Climate Change Office.

Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, she worked with the Alberta Federation of Labour as a policy analyst for five years.

She also spent five years as a member of the board of directors for the Womanspace Resource Centre, a nonprofit organization that provides resources, referrals and education to the community and to individual women.

In 1999 she received a bachelor of arts with honours in political science and in 2002 she completed her master of arts, both at the University of Alberta.


Together with her two sons Ms. Phillips resides in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Honourable Brandy Payne - MLA for Calgary-Acadia

Associate Minister of Health

Brandy Payne was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary-Acadia on May 5, 2015. On February 2, 2016, Ms. Payne was appointed Associate Minister of Health.

She previously served as deputy chair of the Select Special Ethics and Accountability Committee. She is also a past member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and the Standing Committee on Families and Communities.

Ms. Payne holds a journalism degree from Carleton University and graduated with high honours. She has also attended Mount Royal College, taking numerous training courses in project management.

Prior to her election, Ms. Payne worked in administrative and management capacities for over 15 years, including as owner and operator of her own yoga business since 2010.


She and her husband, Scott, are raising a young daughter, Zoe.

Mr. Prasad Panda - MLA for Calgary-Foothills

Prasad Panda was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta in the Calgary-Foothills by-election, which was held on September 3, 2015.

He serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Alberta's Economic Future.

A professional engineer by trade, he previously worked in the energy sector for over 25 years, during which time he held management positions with numerous private global companies.

Mr. Panda holds a bachelor of technology in mechanical engineering from VRS College of Engineering and Technology.

He is an active member of his community, and his volunteer experience includes serving as president of the Telugu Association of Calgary and as the first vice-president of the India-Canada Association of Calgary.

Born in India, he has called Calgary home for over a decade. He and his family live in the constituency of Calgary-Foothills.

Mr. Ronald Orr - MLA for Lacombe-Ponoka

Dear Lord, we pray for Mr. Ronald Orr, MLA for the constituency of Lacombe – Ponoka. We ask Lord, that you will give him wisdom and guidance as he serves on various committees and with organizations. We pray that decisions he makes from day to day will bring answers to issues and solutions to challenges constituents are facing. Ronald Orr was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Lacombe-Ponoka on May 5, 2015. He currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities.

Mr. Orr has a master’s degree in theology and is an ordained minister. He also holds a journeyman carpenter’s ticket and a registered housing professional certificate and has previously owned a general contracting business.

His community involvement includes board positions with a number of charitable organizations, including the Gull Lake Centre and Calgary’s Mustard Seed Society. He also served as a public information officer for the municipal emergency management team for the village of Clive, Alberta.

Mr. Orr was born in Calgary and has lived in Lacombe-Ponoka for 13 years. He and his wife, Donna Marie, have three children.

Premier Rachel Notley - MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona

Premier of Alberta

Rachel Notley was sworn in as the province's 17th Premier on May 24, 2015. She grew up in Fairview, Alberta, and is the daughter of former Alberta ND leader Grant Notley and his wife Sandy.

Having grown up in a passionate political family that believed in the importance of building a fairer, more inclusive society, Rachel was naturally drawn to work to make her home province better, and first ran for election for the Alberta New Democrats in Edmonton-Strathcona in 2008. She was re-elected in 2012 and again in 2015.

Rachel holds a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Alberta, and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. She has worked for a variety of labour unions in both Alberta and British Columbia and served as a ministerial advisor to British Columbia's Attorney General in the 1990s. Rachel's work during her legal career focused on labour law, workers' compensation advocacy and workplace health and safety issues.


Rachel lives in Edmonton's Old Strathcona neighbourhood, along with her husband Lou and their two children Ethan and Sophie.

Mr. Jason Nixon - MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre

Jason Nixon was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta representing the constituency of Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre on May 5, 2015. He currently serves as Official Opposition Whip.

He also serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Legislative Offices and as a member of the Special Standing Committee on Members' Services.

Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Nixon's employment experience largely centred on supporting The Mustard Seed, a Christian not-for-profit organization. Over the course of the 25 years in which he was involved with the charitable organization he served in many roles, including as executive director, a position he held between 2006 and 2011.

More recently and while furthering his studies, Mr. Nixon was elected president of the Athabasca University Students' Union (AUSU), a position he held between April 2014 and May 2015. Previous to this he served as AUSU vice-president of finance and administration from April 2012 to April 2014.

Mr. Nixon's additional employment experience includes working in management for health and safety consulting firms and in business for the oil and gas industry.

He holds a diploma in business administration management from SAIT and a national construction safety officer designation from the Alberta Construction Safety Association.

Mr. Nixon lives just west of Sundre with his wife, Tiffany, and his three children.

He previously served as deputy chair of the Standing Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund and as a member of the Special Standing Committee on Members' Services.

Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Nielsen worked as a shipper/receiver for 26 years, beginning in 1990. During his extensive career he represented his colleagues as shop steward for 15 years and filled various committee positions within local 401 of the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union.

Mr. Nielsen's community work also includes volunteering with the Children's Heart Society in a variety of capacities, including as secretary and as director.

He studied engineering design at NAIT from 1986 to 88.


Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, he and his family have called Edmonton home since 1982.

Ricardo Miranda was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Calgary-Cross, on May 5, 2015. On February 2, 2016, Mr. Miranda was appointed Minister of Culture and Tourism.

He previously served as chair of the Standing Committee on Alberta's Economic Future and as a member of the Select Special Ethics and Accountability Committee and the Standing Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund.

Prior to his service with the Legislative Assembly, he worked as a servicing representative and member organizer with the Canadian Union of Public Employees before being hired as the research representative for Alberta. He is currently on leave from his job as a flight attendant, where he has 15 years of service.


Miranda holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Calgary, and is working towards a secondary degree in industrial relations with a long term view of obtaining his PhD.

Ms. Barb Miller - MLA for Red Deer-South

Barb Miller was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Red Deer-South, on May 5, 2015.

She currently serves as chair of the Standing Committee on the Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund and as deputy chair Select Special Ethics and Accountability Committee. She also serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts.

She was previously a member of the Select Special Ethics and Accountability Committee.

Prior to her serving with the Legislative Assembly, Mrs. Miller was a union steward for the United Food and Commercial Workers local 401. She served on her union's executive committee as the vice president for Central Alberta. She has also served on her union's health and safety and women's committees.

Barb was also the president of the Red Deer and District Labour Council and sat on the executive council of the Alberta Federation of Labour.

Community-focused, Mrs. Miller volunteered for the point-in-time homeless count, and is a strong advocate for the elimination of homelessness.


Born and raised in Edmonton, this proud mother of three and grandmother of two has lived in Red Deer with her husband since 2002.

Ms. Karen McPherson - MLA for Calgary-Mackay-Nose Hill

Karen McPherson was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Calgary-Mackay-Nose Hill, on May 5, 2015.

She currently serves as chair of the Standing Committee on Private Bills, as a member of the Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing as well as a member of the Standing Committee on Families and Communities.

Before being elected, Ms. McPherson’s career spanned roles as varied as Collaboration Analyst, Collaboration and E-mail Architect and Manager, Business Continuity Consultant and Business Analyst in Canada, the United Kingdom and the United States, in industries such as Chemicals, Manufacturing and for more than 20 years, in Oil and Gas.

As part of her commitment to contributing to the community Ms. McPherson has served as Secretary for Old Colony Habitat for Humanity in Norton, Massachusetts, a wrangler when Calgary hosted the Juno Awards in 2008 and a judge of the Calgary Youth Science Fair for seven years.


Ms. McPherson has two grown children, a small grouchy dog and enjoys travelling to learn about the world we live in.

Stephanie McLean was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta as the Member for the constituency of Calgary-Varsity on May 5, 2015. On February 2, 2016, Ms. McLean was appointed Minister of Service Alberta and Minister of Status of Women.

She previously served as a member of the Special Standing Committee on Members' Services and the Select Special Ethics and Accountability Committee.

Prior to serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly, Ms. McLean started a small business practicing law and later partnered to create GTM LLP where she practiced in Family and Criminal litigation.

Born in Calgary and educated in Alberta, Ms. McLean earned a bachelor of arts in philosophy and religious studies at Concordia University College of Alberta in 2008 and received her law degree from the University of Calgary in 2012. Ms. McLean was trained at the law firm of Davidson Gregory Danyluik, the Provincial Court of Alberta under the mentorship of the Honourable Judge Anne Brown and at the Alberta Crown prosecution service.

Active in her community, she presently serves on the board of directors for Alberta Theatre Projects and as a mentor lawyer through the University of Calgary Student Legal Assistance mentorship program. Ms. McLean has offered legal assistance to and has volunteered with Calgary Legal Guidance, the University of Calgary Student Legal Assistance advising lawyer program, the Elizabeth Fry Society and the Calgary Criminal Defense Lawyers Association.


Ms. McLean is passionate about social justice, health care, advanced education, women's rights and consumer protection. She and her husband Shane, as well as their new baby Patrick, are residents of Calgary-Varsity.

Ms. Annie McKitrick - MLA for Sherwood Park

Annie McKitrick was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Sherwood Park on May 5, 2015.

She currently serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Private Bills and the Standing Committee on Alberta's Heritage Savings Trust Fund. Previously she served as a member of the Standing Committee on Alberta's Economic Future.

Originally from France, Ms. McKitrick came to Canada to attend McGill University where she obtained a bachelor of science (Ecology). Ms. McKitrick has a master's degree in education and a diploma in public-sector management from the University of Victoria.

Ms. McKitrick has spent close to 40 years working with all levels of government, postsecondary institutions and not-for-profit organizations.

Prior to her election, Ms. McKitrick operated her own consulting practice, specializing in diversity, organizational development and strategic planning. Her work includes social planning, community development and volunteer and board development.

She previously worked as a social planner for Strathcona County, acting manager of social development for the city of Williams Lake, British Columbia, and as manager of a national research institute at the University of Victoria.

Ms. McKitrick also has extensive international experience, having worked as a researcher with a grant from the Canadian International Development Agency in Kyrgyzstan, as a co-ordinator for income generating projects in Thailand and for a nongovernmental organization responsible for refugee and community development programs in Southeast Asia.

From 1996 until 2005 Ms. McKitrick was a school trustee and chair of the Richmond school board in Richmond, British Columbia.

An active member of the community, Ms. McKitrick has volunteered much of her time and skills to numerous organizations over the past 25 years. In recent years she has volunteered with the Edmonton Folk Music Festival and the Edmonton Bicycle and Touring Club.

Ms. McKitrick is an avid cross-country skier and cyclist and was the cycling co-chair at the 2014 Canada 55+ Games, held in Strathcona County.

She is fluent in French and speaks intermediate Thai and is also a passionate purveyor of local and fair trade foods.

Ms. McKitrick and her husband, Greg, have two children, both now adults, whom they adopted from an orphanage in Thailand.

Mr. Ric McIver - MLA for Calgary-Hays

Thank you Heavenly Father for our Calgary-Hays MLA, Mr. Ric McIver as he serves his constituents. We thank you that you have given him a passion to help people of all age brackets and we pray his compassion and concern for them would continue to grow. Ric McIver was elected to his second term as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-Hays on May 5, 2015.

He currently serves as a member of the Special Standing Committee on Members' Services.

During his first term he served as Minister of Jobs, Skills, Training and Labour. He also served as a member of the Treasury Board and as a member of the Government’s committee on Operations.

As well he had served as Minister of Infrastructure and Minister of Transportation.

Mr. McIver served the residents of Calgary-Hays as the alderman on Calgary city council for ward 12 from 2001 to 2010, a span of three terms. In that time he served on the board of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association, the Calgary Police Commission and the Metropolitan Calgary Foundation. He also served as chair of the Calgary Housing Company.

Mr. McIver became an Albertan on July 26, 1981. He has worked in the food industry in many different roles, including national sales manager and sales and marketing manager of different organizations. He has also owned and operated a food distribution and marketing wholesale business.


He is married to Christine, the founder and CEO of the Kids Cancer Care Foundation of Alberta. Between them they have four children and two grandchildren, all living in Calgary.

Margaret McCuaig-Boyd was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Dunvegan-Central Peace-Notley on May 5, 2015. She was appointed to serve as Minister of Energy on May 24, 2015.

Ms. McCuaig-Boyd holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Alberta and a master's degree in administration and leadership from San Diego State University.

Following 20 years as a teacher and administrator with the Peace River School Division, Ms. McCuaig-Boyd took on the role of vice president of the Fairview Campus with Grande Prairie Regional College. Prior to her election to the Legislative Assembly, Ms. McCuaig-Boyd owned and operated a consulting company offering services to small and medium businesses.

In 2005, Ms. McCuaig-Boyd was the recipient of the Robert H. Routledge Award from the Alberta Schools Athletic Association for outstanding service to Alberta students and for the promotion and operation of an athletic program.

She is an active member of the community serving as a member and president of the Fairview Rotary Club and as a board member of the Fairview Chamber of Commerce.


Ms. McCuaig-Boyd lives in Fairview with her husband Dan and they have two adult children, Jocelyn and Tyson. She enjoys travelling, golfing, curling and skiing.

Honourable Brian Mason - MLA for Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood

Brian Mason was sworn in as the Minister of Infrastructure and as the Minister of Transportation on May 24, 2015.

He was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood in a 2000 by-election.

He was re-elected in the provincial general election of March 12, 2001, and was subsequently appointed House Leader of the New Democrat caucus and critic responsible for human resources, finance and agriculture.

On September 18, 2004, Mr. Mason became leader of the New Democrats, a position he retired in 2014. Mr. Mason was elected to his third term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood on November 22, 2004, his fourth term on March 3, 2008, and his fifth term on April 23, 2012.

Mr. Mason previously served as a member of the Special Standing Committee on Members’ Services, the Standing Committee on Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund, the Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, the Standing Committee on Resources and Environment, the Standing Committee on Government Services and the Standing Committee on the Economy.

Before his election to the Alberta Legislature, Mr. Mason served as city of Edmonton councillor for ward 3. He was first elected in October 1989 and won three subsequent civic elections. As a member of city council for 11 years Mr. Mason gained a reputation as a tough and effective voice for his constituents. During this time Mr. Mason chaired the non-profit Housing Board and served on the Taxi Commission, Library board and Northlands board.

Following his political science studies at the University of Alberta he became politically active, serving as the executive director of the Alberta Federation of Students from 1977 to 1979.

Mr. Mason has lived in Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood for over 20 years with his wife, Karin, and their two sons, Peter and Alex.

Mr. Brian Malkinson - MLA for Calgary-Currie

We thank you Heavenly Father for MLA Brian Malkinson. We appreciate his service to the province of Alberta in the constituency of Calgary- Currie. We pray that he will find adequate time to fulfill all his goals today and also that his days of serving in his constituency would be filled with joy and accomplishment. Brian Malkinson was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta as the Member for the constituency of Calgary-Currie on May 5, 2015.

He currently serves as deputy chair of the Standing Committee on Legislative Offices and as a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts and the Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship. He previously served as a member of the Standing Committee on Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund.

Mr. Malkinson is originally from British Columbia. He obtained a degree in science from Simon Fraser University, where he was, for a time, the president of the Interactive Arts and Technology Student Union.

He is employed in the heavy-equipment industry as a salesman at a heavy-duty engine supplier since making a career change from working as a designer/analyst for Internet start-ups.


Mr. Malkinson currently resides in Calgary, where he enjoys car restoration, music, art and recreational sports.

Mr. Don MacIntyre - MLA for Innisfail-Sylvan Lake

Don MacIntyre was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Innisfail-Sylvan Lake, on May 5, 2015.

Mr. MacIntyre is a member of the Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship.

Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, he spent five years as a part-time instructor/curriculum developer for the alternative energy program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), and between 2010 and 2012 he worked as the chief technical officer for a private overseas geothermal company. As well, he has over a decade of experience in the field of marketing.

He also has extensive committee experience to his credit, including three years as a technical subcommittee member for the Canadian Standards Association and four years for the Alberta Geothermal Energy Association, of which he is a cofounder. During his time with the Alberta Geothermal Energy Association he served in the roles of vice-chair and chair.

Mr. MacIntyre holds accreditation as an instructor, installer and certified geoexchange designer from the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association.


Originally from North Battleford, Saskatchewan, he, along with his wife, Megan, now calls Sylvan Lake home.

Ms. Robyn Luff - MLA for Calgary-East

Father, we thank you for Ms. Robyn Luff, MLA for Calgary – East and pray that she would be lead to do the things most necessary as she serves the people of Alberta. Guide her in the decisions she has to make and give her strength to accomplish the many tasks at hand. Robyn Luff was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-East on May 5, 2015.
Ms. Luff serves as a member of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, the Standing Committee on Families and Communities and the Special Standing Committee on Members' Services.

Prior to her election Ms. Luff was a teacher with the Calgary board of education.

Ms. Luff earned a bachelor of science with a major in biology from the University of Victoria and a bachelor of education (master of teaching) from the University of Calgary. She also took part in Next Up, a progressive leadership program for university alumni from all across Canada.

Ms. Luff was an active member of the Alberta Teachers' Association and has also volunteered as an educator for a number of nature conservation organizations in Calgary.
