Mr. Craig Coolahan - MLA for Calgary-Klein

Dear Lord God, we pray that You would be with MLA Craig Coolahan and guide him in the many decisions he needs to make.  Open his eyes to the many possibilities around him as he serves in his new role in the Legislature.  Provide him with the resources he needs to carry out his work and be successful.  Bless him as he goes through his day.  Amen.  (Grade 6 student)

Craig Coolahan was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary-Klein on May 5, 2015.

He currently serves as chair of the Standing committee on Alberta's Economic Future and as a member of the Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing.

Prior to his election Mr. Coolahan was employed as a business representative with the United Utility Workers' Association, where he managed the administration of several contracts and represented hundreds of workers in the electricity transmission industry.

Mr. Coolahan holds degrees in English and in journalism and worked in various writing and editing capacities for nearly 15 years, including six as a technical writer for a Calgary-based utility company.

He and his wife, Sarah, have two children, Mehna and Kieran.

Mr. Michael Connolly - MLA for Calgary-Hawkwood

Michael Connolly was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Calgary-Hawkwood on May 5, 2015.

Mr. Connolly attended the University of Ottawa to study history and political science in the French immersion program focusing on European integration, Euroscepticism, and Scottish politics and nationalism. He gained valuable experience while completing an internship with an office of a Member of Parliament. During this time he helped to organize a forum for young women leaders from all over Canada.

Previously, Mr. Connolly also worked in the retail and hospitality industries.

Honourable Joe Ceci - MLA for Calgary-Fort

Dear God, we pray that You will continue to give Hon. Mr. Joe Ceci Your discernment, strength and wisdom.  Encourage him as he fulfills an important role in our legislature and help him to persevere in the tough times.  Bless him and his family, enriching their lives with many new friendships and relationships.  As he goes about his day today may he sense that You walk with him.  Amen.   (Grade 6 student) 

President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance

Joe Ceci was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Calgary-Fort, on May 5, 2015. He was appointed to serve as President of Treasury Board and Minister of Finance on May 24, 2015.

Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Ceci worked as a public policy manager with a community-based charitable organization in Calgary. Previous to this, he served as a city of Calgary alderman for 15 years. From 1988 to 1995 he worked as a community social worker with the city of Calgary, and from 1981 to 1987 he provided family counselling services for a number of organizations.

Mr. Ceci’s extensive community involvement has spanned more than 30 years and has included chairing the board of directors for the Folk Festival Society of Calgary and serving as a board member for both Habitat for Humanity and Calgary Bridge Foundation for Youth.

Recognition for his community service includes a lifetime achievement award for advocacy from the Family and Community Support Services Association, a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal, an Alberta centennial medal and nomination for a leadership award from the Alberta College of Social Workers.

He holds a bachelor of social work from the University of Western Ontario and a master of social work from the University of Calgary.

Among Mr. Ceci’s many accomplishments is a published work entitled Breaking the Cycle, which ran in Alberta Views magazine.

He and his wife, Christine, call Calgary home.

Honourable Oneil Carlier - MLA for Whitecourt-Ste. Anne

Dear Lord, we pray that Your presence would be with the Honourable Mr. Oneil Carlier. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry

Oneil Carlier was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Whitecourt-Ste. Anne, on May 5, 2015. On May 24, 2015 he was appointed as Minister of Agriculture and Forestry.

Prior to his service with the Legislative Assembly he worked for 13 years as a regional representative of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) and devoted 20 years to Agriculture Canada as a geo-technical technician. In addition, Mr. Carlier served as a board member for the Saskatchewan Housing Authorities from 1996 to 1999.

Other community involvement for Mr. Carlier includes close to a decade of volunteering as a Scout leader with Scouts Canada.

Mr. Carlier attended the Labour College of Canada, receiving his certificate in 1997.

Born and raised in Val Marie, Saskatchewan, he has called Alberta home for over a decade and has lived in Whitecourt-Ste. Anne with his wife, Michèle, since 2010.

Honourable Deron Bilous - MLA for Edmonton-Beverly-Clareview

In our prayers Lord we lift up Hon. Mr. Deron Bilous, MLA for Edmonton – Beverley - Clareview.  Though we may not know a lot about what he does, You do Lord and so we pray that whatever he needs and whatever he faces today that You would help him and give him strength.  Please keep him safe and help him make wise decisions that will benefit us all.  In Jesus Name.  Amen  (Grade 6 student)

Deron Bilous was sworn in as the Minister of Municipal Affairs and as Minister of Service Alberta on May 24, 2015.

He was first elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Beverly-Clareview on April 23, 2012 and again on May 5, 2015. During his first term he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Private Bills, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, the Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing, and the Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship.

Mr. Bilous was born and raised in Edmonton and is very proud of his Ukrainian ancestry. He graduated from the University of Alberta with a bachelor of education degree in 2001. For the past five years he has taught and mentored students at Edmonton’s Inner City High School.

An active volunteer in his community, Mr. Bilous has been a member of the Beverly Heights Community League and vice-president of the Boyle Street Community League. From 2008 to 2011 he served as a board member on the Edmonton Aboriginal Urban Affairs Committee.

Mr. Bilous also participated in the Canada World Youth program in 1995-96, working in Edmonton, Saint Jerome in Quebec and Tunisia.


Mr. Bilous lives in Beverly Heights. In his spare time he enjoys playing recreational hockey and other sports as well as traveling.

Mr. Manmeet S. Bhullar - MLA for Calgary-Greenway

Dear Lord, we pray this day for MLA Mr. Manmeet Bhullar and are grateful for the wonderful work he does in our government.  We ask You to guide him in the decisions he makes for the people of Alberta.  Lord, we pray that You would give him fresh vision and strategies to help him accomplish much for his constituents and the province.  God, please bless him and his family and give him good rest at night as he is a very busy man.  Amen.   (Grade 6 student)

Manmeet Bhullar was first elected to the Alberta Legislature in March 2008 as the MLA for Calgary-Greenway.

He previously served as Minister of Infrastructure, Minister of Human Services and Minister of Service Alberta.

Mr. Bhullar was also responsible for negotiating a memorandum of understanding that was signed between the then government of Alberta and the state of Punjab in India. The agreement facilitates trade and partnerships between the two jurisdictions on post-secondary education and agriculture.

In addition, he was a member of the Treasury Board, the Planning and Priorities Cabinet Committee, and the Operations Committee.

Born in Calgary, Mr. Bhullar earned his bachelor of arts from Athabasca University, with studies at Mount Royal University, and obtained his bachelor of laws from the University of Windsor.

Mr. Drew Barnes - MLA for Cypress-Medicine Hat

Drew Barnes was elected to his second term as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Cypress-Medicine Hat on May 5, 2015.

Mr. Barnes was born in Saskatchewan and moved to Medicine Hat with his family in 1974. Upon graduation from Medicine Hat high school, he continued his studies at Camrose Lutheran College and the University of Alberta. Upon completion of his bachelor of commerce degree from the University of Alberta, he pursued an award-winning career in real estate.

Mr. Barnes owned and managed a successful real estate office in Medicine Hat during his 26-year career in real estate. He was a member of the Medicine Hat Real Estate Board from 1983 to 2009, and he served as president in 1991.

An entrepreneur and businessman, Mr. Barnes owns a number of businesses in Medicine Hat, which include a construction company, a storage facility and a property management company. He also owns commercial and residential property throughout Alberta and Saskatchewan and has irrigation and ranchland, on which he raises commercial beef, and rodeo stock.

An active member of the community, Drew has been involved in many organizations in Medicine Hat and area. He has served as campaign chair and president of the United Way of Southeastern Alberta. A former president of the Kiwanis Club and Opportunity Capital Corporation, Drew enjoys working with others to forward a common cause. He is also a past member of the Kinsmen and Hockey Hounds.


In his spare time Drew enjoys playing and coaching many sports, including golf, hockey, baseball and soccer, and watching his sons play football.

Ms. Erin Babcock - MLA for Stony Plain

Erin Babcock was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Stony Plain on May 5, 2015.

Ms. Babcock is a licensed practical nurse and has worked in the health care system since 2006 in Saskatchewan and Alberta, working with individuals with mental and physical disabilities. She relocated to Edmonton to further her education at NorQuest College and has since worked in a unit specializing in working with acute stroke patients and acute geriatric patients.


Ms. Babcock is an active community volunteer and leader, having previously served on the board of directors for the Special Olympics in Kindersley, Saskatchewan.

Mr. Wayne Anderson - MLA for Highwood

Wayne was elected as the Member of Alberta’s Legislative Assembly for Highwood on May 5, 2015.

Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Wayne is the youngest of four children. As a youth he spent his summers working on the family farm in Ericksdale, Manitoba, and later as an auto mechanic, and welder for CP rail yards.

Mr. Anderson attended the University of Winnipeg BSc. program, he spent four years deeply involved in student and university business and local politics. He held the position of Treasurer and President for University of Winnipeg Students’ Council in addition to serving on the University’s Board of Regents.

In 1990 Wayne moved to Calgary where he met and married Kim. They moved to Davisburg in 1997 to enjoy acreage living along with Kim’s son Jerret.

Wayne has spent over thirty years in the information technology industry holding positions in business development and management for major corporations. Wayne was very successful at building relationships and understanding the challenges of both business and government to reduce costs and drive efficiencies.

Wayne is excited to bring his considerable business experience to his new role as MLA and is proud to serve as Shadow Minister for Service Alberta for the Wildrose Official Opposition.

Mr. Shaye Anderson - MLA for Leduc-Beaumont

Dear God, We join together to pray for Mr. Shaye Anderson. We pray that you would bless him Lord for all the hard work he does on behalf of the province of Alberta. We ask that you would give him wisdom for the many decisions he makes for Leduc and Beaumont; and that you would guide him to do what is right. Shaye Anderson was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Leduc-Beaumont on May 5, 2015.

Mr. Anderson attended post-secondary studies in British Columbia, from where he originally hails. He obtained a diploma in physical education from Malaspina University-College, now known as Vancouver Island University, and also attended the University of Victoria's Faculty of Education.

For over 10 years Mr. Anderson has worked as a telecommunications technician; his employers include Telus Communications, Vista Telecom Networks and Shaw Cable. In 2015 Mr. Anderson was the recipient of Telus Communications' Customer First champion award.

Mr. Anderson has been involved with the Telecommunications Workers Union and United Steelworkers local 1944 as a shop steward and vice-president.

An avid sportsman, Mr. Anderson plays competitive fastball and rugby; he also helps coach his two sons' soccer and baseball teams.

He and his wife, Kelly, have two sons, Declan and Maddoc.

Mrs. Leela Sharon Aheer - MLA for Chestermere - Rocky Vie

Leela Sharon Aheer was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for Chestermere-Rocky View on May 5, 2015.

Mrs. Aheer has been a proud small-business owner since 1998. She has successfully operated a number of small businesses, each employing several people, including the Aheer Studio of Performance and Chestermere's WestCreek Auto Wash.

Mrs. Aheer studied political science at the University of Calgary for several years before obtaining a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Manitoba. She is a professional musician and is classically trained in all styles. She plays the flute and teaches voice, piano and guitar. Mrs. Aheer has won various awards at the Calgary Kiwanis music festival and has nine songs published to her credit. With her group Minerva she collaborated on a CD entitled Follow Me, which received a national release in Canada. She is fluent French and also sings and instructs voice in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Punjabi, Hindi and Telugu. She and her students have won awards and scholarships for voice and musical theatre.

Mrs. Aheer is an active volunteer, especially in areas of music and the arts. She is known to lend her time and energy to more than 50 events per year and has received numerous accolades for her efforts, including the volunteer of the year award from the town of Chestermere in 2013. Mrs. Aheer is a dedicated advocate for individuals with special needs and regularly spends her time volunteering at hospitals and other care facilities.

Mrs. Aheer along with her family – husband, Malkeet, and two children, Akesh and Sehran – reside in Chestermere.

Honourable Lori Sigurdson - MLA for Edmonton-Riverview

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the Hon. Lori Sigurdson, Minister of Innovation, Advanced Education and Minister of Job Skills and Labour. Give him discernment and wisdom as he deals with those who find themselves in unfortunate circumstances, often beyond their own control. Minister of Human Services

Irfan Sabir was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, representing the constituency of Calgary-McCall, on May 5, 2015. On May 24, 2015 he was appointed as Minister of Human Services.

Prior to serving with the Legislative Assembly, he practiced in aboriginal law at a national law firm in Calgary beginning in 2012. Previous to this, he worked as a research assistant with the Faculty of Law at the University of Calgary (U of C).

He also worked with the Salvation Army for five years and worked as a real estate agent with the Calgary Real Estate Board between 2006 and 2007.

In addition, Mr. Sabir has volunteered with Calgary Legal Guidance and Canadian Red Cross.

In addition to holding a juris doctor degree from the U of C, he has a degree in social work from the U of C and a degree in economics from the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir in Muzaffarabad, Pakistan.


Born in Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir, Pakistan, he has called Calgary home since 2004.

Honourable Shannon Phillips - MLA for Lethbridge-West

Dear Heavenly Father, we are thankful for Hon. Shannon Phillips and the skills and the experience she brings to her new role as Minister of Environment and Alberta. We pray that you would give her the ability to engage the right people and find the resources that will be effective in keeping our environment clean and uncontaminated so that our beautiful parks can be preserved as wonderful vacation and recreation sites in this province for generations to come. As she also serves as Minister Responsible for the Status of Women, we pray she would have insight into the needs of women and wisdom to know how to rally for the rights of Women here in our province. Premier Rachel Notley - MLA for Edmonton-Strathcona

Lord God, we thank you for Premier Rachel Notley and pray for your blessing to be upon her as she serves as our Provincial Leader here in Alberta. In the significant role as well as Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations she will need wisdom, strength and courage. Wisdom when making decisions, strength when the going becomes difficult and courage to stand for her convictions. We also ask that you would guide her in the many initiatives she must carry out in her new role and that you would grant her the insight and understanding to create an effective government that addresses the various needs of this province. Finally, we ask that Ms. Notley would know her efforts are appreciated by those she serves and that your grace would be at work and evident in her life. Amen

Premier

Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations

Rachel Notley was sworn in as the province’s 17th Premier on May 24, 2015. In addition to her role as Premier she also serves as Minister of International and Intergovernmental Relations.

She grew up in Fairview, Alberta, and is the daughter of former Alberta ND leader Grant Notley and his wife Sandy.

Having grown up in a passionate political family that believed in the importance of building a fairer, more inclusive society, Rachel was naturally drawn to work to make her home province better, and first ran for election for the Alberta New Democrats in Edmonton-Strathcona in 2008. She was re-elected in 2012 and again in 2015.

Rachel holds a bachelor of arts in political science from the University of Alberta, and a law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School. She has worked for a variety of labour unions in both Alberta and British Columbia and served as a ministerial advisor to British Columbia’s Attorney General in the 1990s. Rachel’s work during her legal career focused on labour law, workers’ compensation advocacy and workplace health and safety issues.

Rachel lives in Edmonton’s Old Strathcona neighbourhood, along with her husband Lou and their two children Ethan and Sophie.

Honourable Margaret McCuaig-Boyd - MLA for Dunvegan-Central Peace-Notley

Born in Calgary, McCuaig-Boyd holds a master's degree in Education Administration and Leadership, and served as Vice-President of the Fairview Campus of Grande Prairie Regional College from 2009 to 2013. She had experience working with the energy industry in that capacity, seeing that students were trained to work in it.


Prior to running in the 2015 election, McCuaig-Boyd was semi-retired and ran a consulting company.

Honourable Brian Mason - MLA for Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood

Minister of Infrastructure

Minister of Transportation

Brian Mason was sworn in as the Minister of Infrastructure and as the Minister of Transportation on May 24, 2015.

He was first elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood in a 2000 by-election.

He was re-elected in the provincial general election of March 12, 2001, and was subsequently appointed House Leader of the New Democrat caucus and critic responsible for human resources, finance and agriculture.

On September 18, 2004, Mr. Mason became leader of the New Democrats, a position he retired in 2014. Mr. Mason was elected to his third term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood on November 22, 2004, his fourth term on March 3, 2008, and his fifth term on April 23, 2012.

Mr. Mason previously served as a member of the Special Standing Committee on Members’ Services, the Standing Committee on Alberta Heritage Savings Trust Fund, the Standing Committee on Resource Stewardship, the Standing Committee on Public Accounts, the Standing Committee on Resources and Environment, the Standing Committee on Government Services and the Standing Committee on the Economy.

Before his election to the Alberta Legislature, Mr. Mason served as city of Edmonton councillor for ward 3. He was first elected in October 1989 and won three subsequent civic elections. As a member of city council for 11 years Mr. Mason gained a reputation as a tough and effective voice for his constituents. During this time Mr. Mason chaired the non-profit Housing Board and served on the Taxi Commission, Library board and Northlands board.

Following his political science studies at the University of Alberta he became politically active, serving as the executive director of the Alberta Federation of Students from 1977 to 1979.


Mr. Mason has lived in Edmonton-Highlands-Norwood for over 20 years with his wife, Karin, and their two sons, Peter and Alex.

Honourable Sarah Hoffman - MLA for Edmonton-Glenora

Sarah Hoffman has a proven track record delivering progressive change to Edmonton.
In 2010, Sarah ran for school board fighting the never ending closure of schools. She defeated the incumbent Trustee with 70% of the vote.
After her election, Sarah became Vice Chair of Edmonton Public Schools, and was instrumental in bringing a moratorium on school closures. Along with a team of progressive school trustees, she helped develop an inclusion policy to make LGBT students welcome in all schools — a first on the prairies.
In 2012, Sarah Hoffman was elected Chair of Edmonton Public Schools at the age of 32.
Sarah Hoffman has the profile, experience, and ability to win Edmonton Glenora for the NDP.  We need to elect her as our MLA.
