Mr. Jason Luan was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for
Calgary-Hawkwood on April 23, 2012.
In addition to his duties as an MLA, Mr. Luan serves on the following
committees:
- Select Special Conflicts of
Interest Act Review Committee
- Standing Committee on
Alberta’s Economic Future
- Standing Committee on
Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing Committee
Previously he served on the following committees:
- Standing Committee on
Private Bills
- Standing Committee on
Families and Communities
Mr. Luan holds a master’s degree in social work from the University of
Calgary and has dedicated his career to public service for the last 21 years,
promoting healthy families and strong communities. He is passionate about
community development, collaboration, cultural diversity and social inclusion.
Prior to serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, Mr.
Luan first was a child welfare worker for Alberta Family and Social Services
for seven years and then a social planner for the city of Calgary for 14 years,
managing funding for nonprofit social service agencies.
Mr. Luan is proud to have made a difference in many lives through his
distinguished service and leadership in the Immigrant Sector Council of Calgary
as co-chair, the Calgary co-ordinated community access program as the co-chair
and the city of Calgary’s Chinatown Centenary Celebration as the community
lead. An active volunteer of his community for over 20 years, Mr. Luan has also
served as
- vice-president of the
Dalhousie Community Association,
- key communicator of the King
George School Council,
- director of the Sien Lok
Society, a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Chinese-Canadian
heritage, and
- president of the Chinese
Professionals and Entrepreneurs Association of Calgary (CPEAC).
Mr. Luan lives in northwest Calgary with his wife, Fengying Zhang, and
two daughters, Kailie and Linshia. He enjoys golf, badminton, basketball and
hiking.
