MLA Sandra Jansen, Calgary-North West

Dear Heavenly Father, we thank you today for Ms. Sandra Jansen, MLA for Calgary –West and we pray that You may be present to guide her as she chairs the Calgary Caucus. We are grateful for the many volunteer hours she has given to charitable organizations in her community and may she continue to be sensitive to the needs of families as she and other MLAs make decisions in regards to families and communities throughout Alberta. Thank you for her artistic gift and may she continue to have time to enjoy her painting. Amen

Sandra Jansen was elected as the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Calgary-North West on April 23, 2012. Premier Alison Redford named Ms. Jansen to the government´s Operations Committee on May 8.

She chairs the Calgary Caucus and is also a member of the following Standing Committees:
  • Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing
  • Families and Communities
Ms. Jansen grew up in northwest Calgary, where she attended Montgomery and William Aberhart schools. She earned a broadcasting diploma from the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology and later studied French at McGill University. She holds a master’s degree in professional communications from Royal Roads University.

Ms. Jansen is an experienced journalist, having spent 23 years in the field, including 10 years as a national news anchor at CTV News channel in Toronto. She hosted the Citytv Calgary show, Your City, from 2007 to 2010.

Politics has always been a driving force in Ms. Jansen’s world from her first political experience in 1985, when she worked as an assistant press liaison on a provincial party leadership campaign, to her years hosting political panels and elections. She served as Premier Alison Redford’s southern Alberta communications manager from October 2011 to March 2012.

Ms. Jansen is a passionate advocate and dedicated volunteer. Over the years she has volunteered in a media communications consultant role at the United Way, as a board member at the Calgary Girls’ School, as a master of ceremonies for various charitable organizations and as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House in southern Alberta. In June 2012, she was appointed co-chair of the Alberta Film Advisory Council.

An acrylic artist, Ms. Jansen has donated more than 65 of her paintings to the United Way, Calgary Health Trust, Children’s Legal & Educational Resource Centre and Safe Haven since 2007. She also painted more than 40 Spirits of Gold awards for United Way in 2008 and 2009.
